Developing the Talitsky area of Verkhnekamsk potassium-magnesium salt deposit in Perm Krai

  • 60
    mn t
    KCl reserves
    (JORC)
  • 2
    mtpa
    of potassium chloride
(can be increased to 2.6 mtpa)
  • USD 2.5 bn total investments in the project

VPC is building a mining and processing complex at the Talitsky area of the Verkhnekamsk potassium-magnesium salt deposit in Perm Krai, one of the world’s finest potash deposits. This large-scale project aims to complete Acron Group’s vertical integration by securing its own potash feedstock, a key input for the production of complex mineral fertilisers. This will enable the Group to supply its production sites with potash feedstock and enhance its competitiveness.

VPC obtained a licence to develop the Talitsky area of the deposit in 2008. Construction of the mining and processing complex is underway: VPC has commissioned the shafts and is now completing the installation of shaft hoists and the construction of the surface facilities. It is also carrying out primary and secondary mine development, as well as building the processing facilities. The first batch of finished product is expected in 2026.

Talitsky mine key parameters

  • Balance reserves of sylvinite under Russian standards (Categories A + B + C1): 726.1 mn t / 35.5% KCl / 258 mn t KCl
  • Ore reserves under JORC (Proven and Probable)* — 190.7 mn t // 31.4% KCl // 59.9 mn t KCl**
  • Mine capacity: 2 mn t of KCl with further expansion to 2.6 mtpa

Project Stages

2020–2025

Construction of the mine’s surface and underground infrastructure, the processing plant, auxiliary facilities, external engineering networks and linear infrastructure

VPC applied for extending the boundaries of the Talitsky area of the deposit to include the East Talitsky area. The main operations to construct the skip and cage shafts were completed in 2022, followed by their commissioning. In 2025, VPC put the cage shaft hoist into operation and conducted the start-up and commissioning of the skip shaft hoist. Four roadheaders were installed in the underground mine. The cage shaft was connected to the skip shaft, with primary development underway. The main construction work on the surface facilities for the cage shaft was completed, and construction of the surface complex for the skip shaft was underway. In 2025, VPC began supplying air to the underground mine and conducted the start-up and commissioning of the heating unit.

2018–2020

Exploration of the East Talitsky area of the deposit was completed; two vertical shafts in frozen rock were drilled.

2012–2017

Construction of temporary buildings and structures for two vertical shafts sinking

2012–2016

The Talitsky mine construction design developed; approval from the state expert review board obtained; Talitsky mineral resources and ore reserves assessed under revised 2012 JORC Code

2011–2012

Mineral reserves evaluated under JORC code; the feasibility study to evaluate subsurface conditions and estimate ore reserves approved by the Russian State Commission for Mineral Reserves (Rosnedra)

2006–2010

The subsoil licence for the Talitsky area obtained; geologic exploration and preliminary study of main construction solutions for the Talitsky mine performed

Main Provisions of the Licence Agreement (including amendments dated 29 March 2016)

The deadline for reaching design capacity is established in the approved mine development engineering design.
