Acron Group and the Colombian coffee cooperative Coocentral have held a series of workshops for around 300 local farming businesses in the municipalities of Pital, Guadalupe and Garzón, Huila department.
The training programme is implemented as part of a long-standing strategic partnership between Acron and Coocentral, established over a decade ago, and dedicated to promoting advanced agrotechnology and strengthening coffee production competitiveness.
The programmes are designed to increase local farms’ productivity by introducing modern plant nutrition systems tailored to the region's agro-climatic conditions. The growers attending the workshops received practical recommendations on soil fertility management, nutrition programme optimisation and the effective application of fertilisers.
They were also presented with the results of field trials conducted jointly by Acron and Coocentral. The findings showed that Acron’s Ferticoolombia NPK fertilisers boosted coffee plantation yields by 5–11% compared to traditional sources of nutrients, while keeping the proportion of substandard beans below 2.3%. The trials also demonstrated increased nutrient use efficiency, at a rate of 5.3 compared to 4.9 for standard fertilisation programmes.
Anna Dorofeeva, Head of Acron’s Marketing Department commented, ‘Our goal is not just to supply fertilisers but also to share our expertise and technologies to help local farmers enhance the productivity and sustainability of their operations. Through our joint programmes with Coocentral, we are providing modern agronomic solutions to one of the world’s major coffee-producing regions’.
Igor Bessarabenko, Head of Agromarketing at Acron’s Marketing Department added, ‘The results of the field trials showed that balanced plant nutrition significantly increases production effectiveness, improving both yield and coffee quality. This lays the foundation for the sector's long-term sustainability’.
The Huila department is Colombia’s leading producer of top-grade coffee, accounting for around 18% of the country’s total coffee output. The Coocentral cooperative, which brings together over 3,000 producers, supports the region’s growth by offering agronomic guidance, modern technology, and bespoke plant nutrition solutions.
For over a decade, Acron has been supplying Colombia with mineral fertilisers and developing nutrition solutions for its key crops, including coffee, sugarcane, avocados, bananas, citrus fruits, rice, and oil palms.
