Recognised as the eco-friendly technology of the year, Acron Group’s project to upgrade the Ammonia-3 unit won the ECO BEST-2025 Award.
The USD 142 million upgrades, completed in Veliky Novgorod this year, helped ramp up Acron’s ammonia output to 2,300 tpd. The project, under the general design of Acron Engineering Research and Design Centre, involved commissioning over 70 items of cutting-edge process equipment.
In addition to increased output, a wider product range and a higher profit margin, the project also delivered environmental benefits. By applying best available techniques, Acron reduced its natural gas consumption by 10% per tonne of ammonia and improved the CO₂ treatment process to enable its use in urea and NPK production.
The Russian ECO BEST Award has been held annually since 2017 to recognise companies, organisations and individuals that apply the best environmental, sustainable development and resource efficiency practices. It is also given for responsible consumption and the implementation of green technologies and business models.
This year’s contenders included trendsetters in the area of environmental protection, as well as resource and energy efficiency. The jury was pleased to see an increased number of projects that make a real difference to the environment. The full list of nominees is available here.
