Acron Group, a leading vertically integrated mineral fertiliser producer in Russia and worldwide, is upgrading Urea 1–4 units at its production facility in Veliky Novgorod.
The Group will invest a total of USD 80 million in this project under the general design of Acron Engineering Research and Design Centre. The project, scheduled for completion in 2026, will increase daily urea output from 2,100 to 3,100 tonnes.
As part of the project, Acron will construct a new synthesis, distillation and compression shop along with the relevant engineering infrastructure. All four urea synthesis shops will use the same technology and can be operated from a single central control room.
Veliky Novgorod-based Acron currently operates six urea units. Urea 1–4 units were put on stream in 1969–1972 and their capacity was later increased to 730,000 tonnes per year. In 2012, the company commissioned Urea 5 unit with capacity of 350,000 tonnes per year, which was later upgraded to 515,000 tonnes per year. In 2023, the overhaul of Urea 6 unit was completed, increasing its daily capacity to 2,650 tonnes. In 2020 and 2023, the company put into operation two granulation units with capacity of 700,000 tonnes per year each. Acron’s total urea production capacity is over 2 million tonnes per year, making it the largest urea production facility in Europe.
