Veliky Novgorod-based Acron has joined the environmental campaign to restore aquatic biological resources in Novgorod region for the third time, releasing 2,000 underyearlings of pike-perch into Lake Ilmen.
The juvenile fish were bred at Vladimir Vrassky Nikolskoye Fish Farm and then adapted to their natural habitat.
Maria Nalitova, Head of the EHS department at Acron, said: ‘This campaign is part of our systematic efforts to preserve the ecosystem of Novgorod region. Over the years that it has been running, we have released around one million juvenile fish of various species.’
Dmitry Grafov, Chairman of the Hunting and Fishing Committee in Novgorod region, pointed out the particular significance of Acron’s initiative, explaining that restoring the pike-perch population is vital for Lake Ilmen’s ecosystem since this species is very popular with both commercial fishers and recreational anglers in the area. ‘There are measures taken to offset environmental impact, and there are those undertaken voluntarily. Acron has been participating in this campaign for several years now, and we hope that other businesses in the region will follow suit,’ Mr Grafov said.
As well as environmental specialists and members of the EHS department, the campaign also brought together Acron’s young employees.
