Velky Novgorod-based Acron has taken part in an environmental campaign to restore aquatic biological resources in Novgorod region, releasing 2,600 underyearlings of pikeperch into Lake Ilmen.
The juvenile fish have been bred at Vladimir Vrassky Nikolskoye Fish Farm, a branch of the Glavrybvod fishery, and adapted to the natural habitat.
Mikhail Arkhipov, deputy head of Glavrybvod’s north-western branch, said, ‘Our efforts include increasing the number of pikeperch and preserving the ecosystem of Lake Ilmen. Autumn is a good time to release juvenile fish. We have identified an area in the lake with the most suitable depth and temperature for the release’.
The recent campaign is a part of our environmental efforts. Fish stocking practices have been introduced as fish reproduction in natural waters is often insufficient.
Maria Nalitova, Head of EHS Department at Acron, said, ‘Environmental policy has long been a major focus for our company. In addition to our production activities, we are committed to preserving and restoring biodiversity in the region where we work and live’.
Dmitry Graphov, Chairman of the Hunting and Fishing Committee in Novgorod region, thanked Acron for its contribution to the release of juvenile pikeperch into Lake Ilmen, where this species is particularly popular with professional fishermen. ‘We appreciate Acron’s participation in the campaign and hope that other companies will follow’, Mr Graphov said.
The campaign was also an opportunity for Acron’s young employees to talk to environmental specialists and to observe and participate in the fish stocking process.
