Acron and Kurchatov Institute Sign Cooperation Agreement

On 22 January 2016, the Kurchatov Institute National Research Centre and Acron Group signed an agreement on cooperation in fundamental and applied research to create new technologies and upgrade the existing technologies at the Group's production facilities.

“I’m confident that effective cooperation between Acron and the Kurchatov Institute will further the dynamic innovative development of Russian industry and promote rapid import substitution to replace foreign technologies and materials in major segments of the Russian economy,” said the Head of Acron Coordinating Board Mr Viatcheslav Kantor.

The Kurchatov Institute has unique scientific and engineering capabilities to conduct the full range of research and create new technologies for energy efficiency and energy conservation. For its part, Acron and its subsidiaries have pilot production units capable of extracting rare earth elements from mineral inputs and separating nepheline concentrate into a wide range of products that can be used to produce modern high-tech materials.

As Mr Kantor emphasized during the ceremony, Acron’s cooperation with the Kurchatov Institute, a major Russian research centre, will help improve key engineering solutions in the entire chemical industry.

“Acron Group would like to employ the Institute’s unique expertise in resource conservation, energy efficiency and expert review, treatment and rehabilitation of test sites. We see excellent prospects for cooperation in improving the core properties of Acron’s fertilisers, comprehensive processing of raw materials, creating new products and advancing the existing process to produce non-fertiliser chemicals,” Mr Kantor said.

According to experts, the global economy has entered the post-industrial stage of its development, with a greater emphasis on achieving efficiency and innovative development instead of simply scaling up industrial production. In order to meet the challenges of the new economy going forward, the business community needs to employ the experience of leading research institutions analysing long-term drivers for global economy and developing and implementing cutting-edge engineering solutions.
“We would like our cooperation with the Kurchatov Institute to become an example, a symbol of collaboration between Russian science and industry,” Mr Kantor declared at the conclusion of his welcome address.
