Acron to Increase Ammonia Output in Veliky Novgorod

Acron Group is revamping two ammonia units at its Novgorod-based facility at a total cost of USD 190 million.

The project’s chief designer is Acron Engineering. KBR will provide the process licence, base design package, and licensed equipment.

When the equipment replacements are complete in 2023, ammonia output will increase by 375,000 tonnes per annum.

Chairman of Acron’s Board of Directors Alexander Popov explained the rationale behind the project. ‘Upgrading the units and expanding their capacity will allow us to increase our output of all ammonia-based products while reducing both consumption of natural gas and nitric and carbon oxides emissions’.

In late 2020, Acron ramped up output at its Veliky Novgorod facility’s Ammonia-4 unit, originally put on stream in 2016, to 2,500 tonnes per day, 21% above its design capacity.

Acron currently operates three ammonia units with total capacity of 2.2 million tonnes per annum.
