Acron (Veliky Novgorod) Invests RUB 300 Million in Overhaul of Main Step-Down Substation

New turbine generator will deliver savings of up to RUB 120 million annually

Acron in Veliky Novgorod has completed an overhaul at its main step-down substation (Main Step-Down Substation 100), which was originally commissioned in 1974. This is the first extensive overhaul of the strategic power facility in its history.

During the overhaul, reserve capacity was designed for new construction and future facilities planned at the production site, which will increase the reliability of the plant’s power supply. Special attention was paid to the work process automation. Almost all the new equipment was produced in Russia and meets the requirements for voltage reception and distribution and a modern emergency control system. Investments in the project totalled RUB 300 million.

The overhaul was prompted by the need to connect the turbine generator at the new Ammonia 4 unit to the facility’s power system. Acron’s power consumption is 110-120 MW per hour. Siemens turbine generators meet 10-15% of this capacity by consuming steam excess. In-house power generation will save up to RUB 120 million per year.
