Acron to Develop Sixth Urea Unit at Novgorod Site

Plans to invest RUB 2 billion in new 600-tpd unit

Acron Group is preparing to build a sixth urea unit at its Veliky Novgorod facility. The launch of the new 600-tpd unit is scheduled for summer 2018, with project investments totaling RUB 2 billion.

The Company has prepared a site for future construction and installation operations, and selection of the construction contractor and equipment suppliers is underway. The new unit will be designed by JSC NIIK (Research and Design Institute of Urea and Organic Synthesis Products). Integration will be performed by LLC Novgorod GIAP (Veliky Novgorod). Plans are for the new unit to eventually go into tandem with Unit 5 and be controlled from a single CPU.

Unit 6 will be equipped with a modern advanced wastewater treatment package, which will also serve Units 1-4.

Chairman of Acron’s Board of Directors Alexander Popov noted: “The decision to increase urea capacity at the Novgorod site was made in response to the availability of additional feedstock from the Ammonia 4 unit, commissioned in 2016, which is the most powerful in Europe”.

In parallel, PJSC Acron is working to upgrade its existing urea units. Once all upgrades and the commissioning of the sixth unit are complete, total product output will increase to 3,650 tonnes per day.

Urea is a high analysis nitrogen fertiliser and a feedstock for producing UAN and urea-formaldehyde resins. It is effective as a fertiliser on various types of soil for cultivating rice, foliar feeding vegetables and horticultural crops, and late fertilising of wheat to increase protein content.
